Registration
Students must pre-register through our online enrollment system. Each online student must have a valid unique email address in order to complete the enrollment process and to participate in class activities. Couples must each enroll separately and complete all assignments independently.
Our online classes are in high demand, and space is limited. Students who repeatedly reserve a space in an online class but who fail to complete the course may be barred from future online enrollment.
FAQ’s on Online Courses
How do you know if online training is right for you?
Some people thrive in the online environment. Others really miss the face-to-face interaction. If you have never taken an online class, click here for a checklist to help you decide whether it is a good fit for you. Then try out one of the self-directed classes to see.
Can my computer handle the Children’s Alliance courses?
Our students need only the bare-bones basic computer to participate in an online class. We have students who have taken our classes on every kind of PC, Macintosh, netbooks, even iPad, iPhone and Android cell phones.
What software do I need?
Primarily you need a fairly current web browser for your computer or mobile device. We support Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome and more. You need a reader for Adobe PDF format. To watch one of the enriching videos available with the materials, you need a movie viewer or Flash player. Some of the videos have audio or text transcripts. If you visual or auditory limitations and need a transcription where you don’t find one offered, please contact us and we can provide it.
Can the browser security on my computer or office network support the Children’s Alliance courses?
Generally, normal web browsing security settings are adequate for our online courses. Support for javascript is needed for successful test taking. Navigation between parts of the course require ability to create and save “cookies”.
Two very simple cookies are used by our elearning system. The essential one is the “session cookie”. You must allow this cookie to be stored by your browser to provide continuity, record time online and test taking attemps, and and maintain your login from page to page. When you log out or close the browser this cookie is destroyed (in your browser and on the server).
If you are on an office network, your IT support staff needs to enable creation and storage of this cookie in order to allow you to participate in our online courses. If they have any questions, they can contact us at webadmin@childally.org
The other cookie is purely for convenience. It is used to remember your username while you are moving between parts of the web site or course. It also means that when you return to this site at another time, your username on the login page will be already filled out for you. It is perfectly safe to refuse this cookie, just a bit inconvenient.
